Upward Bound
The Upward Bound project at Arkansas Tech University is a newly funded college preparation grant program for high school students in the communities surrounding Russellville. The program focuses on giving students in the River Valley a first-hand college experience through tutoring, advising, and an intense summer residential program. Students who graduate from Upward Bound programs are more likely to succeed academically in high school and college.
Upward Bound and several other similar programs were originally established by the federal government in 1965 to ensure equal educational opportunity for all Americans, regardless of race, ethnic background, or economic circumstance. In many communities, these programs are some of the only programs available that help students overcome the class, social, academic and cultural barriers to higher education
The UB program at Arkansas Tech University is committed to serving the students and families in our community to ensure success in high school and college.
Target high schools include:
Atkins High School
Dover High School
Hector High School
Lamar High School
Pottsville High School
